not eating, not drinking and not having sex are outward actions whose purpose is inward. it exists as a spiritual practice in nearly every religion on earth.many people who are not even religious also practice it for intensely personal reasons to feed inner needs that the constant physicality without reflection and spiritual satisfaction cannot meet. it doesnt mean theyre dying or selfish or repressed. i use it to clear the clutter and confusion out of my life and find its very enlightening and calming. i feel none of the negative emotions you list.

it's not necessarily a way of life or a path in itself- it's a tool to learn not to be controlled by your physical passions at the expense of your higher functioning.

i know people who have thrown themselves into their physical passions so that theyre completely repulsive, negative selfish twisted and sick people. theyre hollow, have no empathy, no sense of humility. they fed the wolf of the bath house and the bathroom stall of the t station and the dark corner of the movie house upper lodge. they fucked themselves emotionally numb basically. the constant feeding of this ego killed just about all my friends. maybe if people had stopped and thought about their bodies and their emotions and their spiritual needs instead of compulsive fucking and animal gratification. maybe if they stopped for a second and thought about meaning in their lives and the truths behind their self constructed physical compulsive behaviors theyd be alive today.

i guess the real point is that ignoring completely either the sky or the ground is going to leave you fucked in somehow. there has to be balance. sometimes you have to leave the world to find it and sometimes you have to find the world to leave it.

"Everything you see has its roots in the unseen world.
The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same.
Every wonderful sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade,
But do not be disheartened,
The source they come from is eternal, growing,
Branching out, giving new life and new joy.
Why do you weep?
The source is within you
And this whole world is springing up from it."- rumi
