That's been one of my favorite songs for many years. The only thing I'm not crazy about on the Tori version is that the engineer left loud breaths in the vocal track. I don't have a pet peeve for it when it's mild, but that's a bit intense. It's a fucking brilliant cover despite that one thing.

The original video tends to choke me up, because it reminds me of a time when I was young, and had real hope.

Now, I have never been crazy about Tori (heh..I just typed that as "torti" damn cats on the brain)Amos' version of that song because it lacks the depth and simplicity (wow, did I just type that wankery) of the Stranglers....I am happy you posted that version :)

i used to call her tori bushmos because of her kate bushisms and i sort of loathed her for some time. i liked that god song though and ' cornflake girl' but the later only because it's so very very kate bush i suppose.

she has made a habit of covering punk songs through out her career. i've always loved the stranglers and i was happy that in a way she gave them a wider audience in america then they ever had in the day. they wrote some great pop songs. they were the doors of punk and i always loved the doors.

pop songs that are great are all about being simple but evoking deep emotions- something its not so very easy to do well.

" i sort of loathed her for some time. i liked that god song though and ' cornflake girl' "

Me too, exactly. I'm a Kate Bush fan.
